Jobs don’t “appear” after graduation, as much as we would like that to happen. Time, effort, and organization are needed to discover the employers who need you, then you must convince them they need you . Utilizing these tools and resources can assist you in developing a comprehensive and tailored job search plan. With information gathered from informal interviewing, industry research and experiential learning, start formulating questions to ask friends, relatives, acquaintances, faculty and advisors. Additionally, you may want to consider a few of the following resources and tools provided by Northern Arizona University to help you in your job search.
Jobs for Jacks
This is an online employment database exclusively available to NAU students and alumni. To create a profile please visit Jobs for Jacks. Many employers wish to hire NAU students. While some employers post vacancies on Jobs for Jacks, others post general job descriptions with links to their home page where you may find vacancy announcements and specific application instructions for their organization. Make sure to search both vacancy announcements and organizations on Jobs for Jacks to find the most up-to-date job listings. Pay particular attention to the organization’s application instructions.
Career and Graduate School Fairs
NAU organizes a campus-wide career fair once a semester and various Colleges and Departments host discipline- specific fairs throughout the year. If you are interested in broadening your search, you may also consider attending career events sponsored by other universities or regional organizations. Students who attend fairs are able to meet prospective employers, gather information, search for internships and career opportunities and research graduate schools.
On-Campus Interviewing
A number of companies visit campus each year to interview and recruit NAU students and alumni. Oncampus interviews for Fall 2011 begin in September and for Spring 2012 in January. Interviewing on-campus is an excellent way to market yourself. Generally, you must register on Jobs for Jacks to interview with employers recruiting at NAU.
