STA 270 APPLIED STATISTICS     (3)

Graphical and quantitative description of data; binomial, normal, and t distributions; one- and two-sample hypothesis tests and confidence intervals; simple linear regression and correlation. Prerequisite: MAT 102X with a grade greater than or equal to C or Math Placement 46 or International Student Group SAS

 

STA 371 INTERMEDIATE STATISTICS     (3)

Applies statistical methods to real world problems. Simple and multiple regression, ANOVA, experimental design, and categorical data analysis. Designing studies and collecting data, analyzing information, and writing reports. Prerequisite: STA 270 with grade greater than or equal to C

 

STA 408 FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE     (1-12)

Individualized supervised field experience in an appropriate agency or organization. Pass-fail only. Fee required.  No repeat limit.

 

STA 471 REGRESSION ANALYSIS     (3)

Simple linear, multiple linear, curvilinear, and multiple curvilinear regression models. Simple, multiple, and partial correlation. Variable selection techniques. Prerequisite: STA 270 and (MAT 136 or MAT 136H) with grades greater than or equal to C

 

STA 472 NONPARAMETRIC STATISTICS     (3)

Surveys nonparametric procedures, including binomial, Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon, Kruskal-Wallis, Friedman, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, and chi-square tests; comparisons to parametric techniques. Prerequisite: STA 270 with grade greater than or equal to C

 

STA 473C INTRODUCTION TO MATHEMATICAL STATISTICS I     (3)

Elementary combinatorial probability theory, random variables, probability distributions, and moments. Prerequisite: MAT 137 with grade greater than or equal to C CAP

 

STA 474C INTRODUCTION TO MATHEMATICAL STATISTICS II     (3)

Principles of statistical inference, estimation, and hypothesis testing. Prerequisite: STA 473C with grade greater than or equal to C CAP

 

STA 485 UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH     (1-6)

Original research under the supervision of a research adviser. Pass-fail only.  Department consent required.

 

STA 497 INDEPENDENT STUDY     (1-6)

Individualized approach to selected topics by guided reading and critical evaluation. Pass-fail only.  Department consent required.
