Undergraduate Introduction

You may pursue the following academic plans in NAU’s Department of Humanities, Arts, and Religion:

Also see the sections titled Art History and Religious Studies for additional plans you might want to consider.

The objective of our program is to provide insight into the human condition and human values. We offer an integrative and interdisciplinary study of human aesthetic, intellectual, ethical, and spiritual expressions as found in the arts and literature of world cultures, both past and present.

Courses in humanities emphasize critical thinking, comparative analysis, and effective expression. Our academic plans in humanities offer you valuable preparation for graduate work in the arts or professional studies of almost any nature, notably education, business, government, librarianship, law, foreign service, and nonprofit community organizations.
