You may pursue the following academic plans through the College of Education’s Department of Teaching and Learning:

• B.S.Ed. in elementary education (extended major)

• B.S.Ed. in early childhood education (extended major)

• teacher preparation in secondary education

• B.A. in liberal studies: early childhood education (extended major)

• B.A. in liberal studies: learning and pedagogy (extended major)

• B.A. in liberal studies: library science (extended major)

• B.A.S. in early childhood education

• minor in library science

• content emphasis in individualized study (for the B.S.Ed. in elementary education)

• content emphasis in Navajo culture (using transfer courses only)

• content emphasis in Navajo language (using transfer courses only)

• endorsement to state teaching certification

Through these plans, we strive to prepare you for applied work in school settings. Our faculty members represent a wide diversity of educational expertise and have considerable experience working at all levels of education. Through their guidance, we seek to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills to create the schools of tomorrow.

Graduate Information

You may pursue the following programs in the department of teaching and learning:  

• M.Ed. in early childhood education  

• M.Ed. in elementary education: certification

• M.Ed. in elementary education: continuing professional education

• M.Ed. in secondary education: certification

• M.Ed. in secondary education: continuing professional education  

• Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction  

In addition to our master's and doctoral programs, we offer programs to prepare you for post-degree state certification in elementary education, and secondary education in various content areas.  

If you have completed a bachelor's degree in a field other than education and wish to become certified to teach in the public schools, you may do so by completing additional coursework that may or may not include graduate courses. To pursue post-degree state certification, please be aware that you must be admitted to the teacher education program.
