FIN  190 PERSONAL FINANCE       (3)

Management of personal finances through the use of credit, savings, insurance, stocks, bonds, and other investment programs; using bank services, determining personal taxes, planning for retirement, and estate planning. No prior background in business required.

FIN  250 INVESTING FOR INDIVIDUALS       (3)

Examines investment instruments (stocks, bonds, mutual funds), balancing risk and return, benefits of portfolios, broker-client relations, alternate investment strategies, and the use of public information. No prior business background required.

 

FIN  299 MODULAR LEARNING EXPERIENCE     (1-3)

In-depth study of an aspect, concept, or problem.  Letter grade only.  May be repeated for up to 6 hours of credit.

 

FIN  303 CONCEPTS IN FINANCE       (3)

Basic concepts of financial decision making, how investors evaluate stocks and bonds, and function of financial institutions and markets. (Note: If you're enrolled in a B.S., B.S.B.A., or M.B.A. program within The W. A. Franke College of Business, you cannot take this course for credit.) Prerequisite: ACC 255 and (ECO 284 or ECO 284H) and Junior Status or higher

 

FIN  311 PRINCIPLES OF FINANCE       (3)

Surveys financial operations in relation to other business functions; internal financial activities, sources of funds, and involvement with money and capital markets; basics of financial analysis; understanding of financial system. Prerequisite: Business Major Status Milestone

 

FIN  331 INTRODUCTORY INVESTMENTS       (3)

Investments, security markets, and security valuation. Development of investment strategies based on efficient markets, asset pricing, and portfolio theory. Prerequisite: FIN 311 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

FIN  340 FINANCIAL ANALYSIS AND WORKING CAPITAL MANAGEMENT       (3)

Analyzes pro-forma financial statements for decision making. Management of current assets and liabilities emphasizing small business applications. Prerequisite: FIN 311 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

FIN  350 CORPORATE MANAGERIAL FINANCE       (3)

Development of theory and intensive application of techniques for long-term financial management of the firm. Emphasizes capital budgeting and long-term financing, including leasing. Prerequisite: FIN 311 and Business Major Status Milestone

FIN  421 MANAGEMENT OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS       (3)

Managerial aspects of financial institutions and their role in the economy, with emphasis on commercial banks. Prerequisite: ECO 473 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

FIN  431 INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT       (3)

Reviews applicable tax code. Applies investment theory to model portfolios. Examines options and futures contracts in context of hedging and speculation. Determines how payoff streams are altered by combining securities. Coconvenes with FIN 531. Prerequisite: FIN 331 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

FIN  432 STUDENT MANAGED INVESTMENT FUND      (1)

Applications of portfolio construction and management techniques to an allocation of the NAU Foundation's endowment. Prerequisite:  FIN 311 and Admission to Finance (BSBA) or Investments (CERT) or Business Administration (MBA)

 

FIN  451 CASES IN CORPORATE FINANCE       (3)

Intensive application of theory and techniques for financial management of the resources of the firm. Applies tools and techniques through case analysis to problem definition and solution in diverse environments. Coconvenes with FIN 551. Prerequisite: FIN 340 and FIN 350 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

FIN  466 LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP       (1-12)

Supervised internship in the Arizona Legislature during spring term. Students are selected on a competitive basis, and you must apply during the fall term. (To be eligible, you must be a candidate for a bachelor¿s degree, have completed all lower-division requirements, and have attained senior status at the end of the fall term preceding the internship.) Course enrollment is handled by the associate provost for academic administration after the legislature has made its final selection. Pass-fail only.

 

FIN  480 INTERNATIONAL FINANCE       (3)

Development of financial theory and intensive application of techniques in the framework of multinational corporations. Special emphasis on currency exchange and translation problems as to evaluation of international cash flows. Coconvenes with FIN 580. Prerequisite: FIN 311 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

FIN  485 UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH     (1-6)

Individualized original research under the supervision of a research adviser.  Pass-fail only.  May be repeated for up to 6 units of credit.

Individualized approach to selected topics by guided reading and critical evaluation. Pass-fail only.

 

FIN  498 SENIOR SEMINAR     (1-3)
