GRT  310 BIOPHYSICAL AGING       (3)

Surveys current theories on biological mechanisms of aging, examining the manifestations at the systemic, cellular, and subcellular levels; correlation of these observations to human aging. Prerequisite: 3 hours of BIO-Biology coursework or International Exchange Student Group

 

GRT  360 SOCIOCULTURAL AGING       (3)

Comparative analysis of social and cultural theories of aging; study of development of social and economic policies relating to the elderly in modern societies; comparative analysis of societal attitudes and relationships with the elderly in various cultural settings. Crosslisted as SOC 360.

 

GRT  360W SOCIOCULTURAL AGING       (3)

Comparative analysis of social and cultural theories of aging; social, cultural, and economic factors affecting elders in various contexts; societal attitudes toward aging and elders; health and policy issues. This course fulfills NAU's junior-level writing requirement. Crosslisted as SOC 360W. JWRT

Individualized supervised field experience in an appropriate agency or organization. Application of theory, skill, and knowledge of social gerontology in direct social service settings. Pass-fail only.  Department consent required. CAP

 

GRT  410 SEMINAR ON CURRENT GERONTOLOGY ISSUES       (3)

Current theoretical and policy questions about the physical, social, and cultural aspects of aging.

 

GRT  460 AGING AND HEALTH       (3)

Introduces concepts, critical issues, and settings involving health issues that affect elders. Prerequisite: Senior Status or higher

 

GRT  497 INDEPENDENT STUDY     (1-6)

Individualized approach to selected topics by guided reading and critical evaluation. Letter grade or pass-fail.  Department consent required.

 

GRT  499 CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENTS     (1-3)

Examines recent trends and investigations in a selected area.  Letter grade only.  No repeat limit.
