ID  110 INTRODUCTION TO INTERIOR DESIGN       (3)

Basic issues and concepts related to the history and processes of commercial and residential interior design.

 

ID  121 INTERIOR DESIGN GRAPHICS       (3)

Theory and practice of production drawings and orthographic and perspective projections as they relate to interior design. Emphasizes the use of mechanical drawing and producing scaled working drawings. 1 hr. lecture, 4 hrs. studio.

 

ID  123 INTERIOR DESIGN VISUALIZATION       (3)

Basic course in free-hand perspective, visualization techniques, and basic rendering of quick sketches for interior design, using pencil, ink, and colored pencil. 1 hr. lecture, 4 hrs. studio.

 

ID  198 MODULAR LEARNING EXPERIENCE     (1-3)

Foundations of intellectual inquiry.  In-depth study of a substantive problem.  Letter grade only.  May be repeated for up to 6 hours of credit.

 

ID  221 DESIGN METHODOLOGIES       (3)

Programming, analysis, and rationalization for the development of functional spatial relationships. 2 hrs. lecture, 2 hrs. studio. Prerequisite: (ID 121 and Sophomore Status or higher) or International Exchange Student Group

 

ID  224 ARCHITECTURAL RENDERING       (3)

Use of various materials, such as ink, colored pencils, markers, transparent and opaque watercolors, and acrylics on papers, mylars, and overlays. 1 hr. lecture, 4 hrs. studio. Prerequisite: (ID 121 and ID 221 and ART 135) or International Exchange Student Group

 

ID  230 AUTOCAD I - TWO DIMENSIONAL       (3)

Basic two-dimensional drawing and editing commands, drawing setup, and plotting features. Hands-on project class, teaches the use of software through the creation of typical interior design and architectural drawings. 1 hr. lecture, 2 hrs. studio. Prerequisite:  ID 121 and ID 123

 

ID  246 HISTORY OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE AND FURNITURE I       (3)

Surveys historical architecture, interior treatments, furnishings and decorative appointments characteristic of specific design styles in selected cultures from antiquity to approximately 1900. Prerequisite:  Sophomore Status or higher or International Exchange Student Group

 

ID  247 HISTORY OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE AND FURNITURE II       (3)

Surveys historical architecture, interior treatments, furnishings, and decorative appointments characteristic of specific design styles in selected cultures from approximately 1900 to the present. Prerequisite:  Sophomore Status or higher or International Exchange Student Group

Studies characteristics, manufacturing processes, evaluation, and specification of materials and products for use in interior design. Prerequisite: Junior Status or higher or International Exchange Student Group

 

ID  325 ARCHITECTURAL INTERIOR SYSTEMS       (3)

Provides preliminary understanding of various aspects of architectural systems: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, illumination, acoustics, and other factors that impinge on the design of interior space, including building codes and laws. Prerequisite: (ID 123 and ART 150 and ART 151) or International Exchange Student Group

ID  330 AUTOCAD II - TWO DIMENSIONAL AND THREE DIMENSIONAL       (3)

Continuation of ID 230. Advanced two-dimensional drawing commands, blocks and symbol libraries, presentation techniques, and introduction to three-dimensional drawing. 1 hr. lecture, 2 hrs. studio. Prerequisite:  ID 230

 

ID  361 INTERIOR DESIGN I       (3)

Basic problems in design of total interior spaces. Emphasizes determinants of space utilization and specifications and preparation of design graphics. 1 hr. lecture, 4 hrs. studio.

 

ID  362 INTERIOR DESIGN II       (3)

Intermediate-level studio problems dealing with multi-space, public and private uses of interiors. Emphasizes use planning, working drawings, and budgeting. 1 hr. lecture, 4 hrs. studio.

 

ID  389 COOPERATIVE EDUCATION       (1-12)

Individualized preplanned cooperative employment experience related to your field of study or career objectives. Pass-fail only.  Fee required.  No repeat limit.

Seminar. Preparation of internship materials and research into professional responsibilities to enhance a successful internship experience. Prerequisite:  Admission to Interior Design (BS) and Senior Status or higher

 

ID  408 FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE       (1-12)

Internship. Supervised field experience in an appropriate agency or organization. Pass-fail only.  Department consent required. Prerequisite: ID 322 and Senior Status or higher and Cumulative GPA greater than 1.99

 

ID  421 INTERIOR LIGHTING AND ACOUSTICS       (3)

Lighting and acoustical considerations for interior spaces with emphasis on lighting design and specification. Prerequisite: (ID 325 and ID 326W and ID 362) or International Exchange Student Group

 

ID  425 PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES       (3)

Review of business and professional issues as related to the practicing interior designer, including organizational structures, interior design and product marketing, contract document preparation, fee structures, and project management. Prerequisite: (ID 421 and Senior Status or higher) or International Exchange Student Group

 

ID  461 INTERIOR DESIGN III       (3)

Facility planning. Advanced project problem solving, concentrating on facility planning of private and public interiors. 1 hr. lecture, 4 hrs. studio.

 

ID  462 INTERIOR DESIGN IV       (3)

Comprehensive large-scale projects in commercial and institutional interiors. 1 hr. lecture, 4 hrs. studio.

 

ID  485 UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH     (1-6)

Individualized original research under the supervision of a research adviser.  Pass-fail only.  May be repeated for up to 6 units of credit.

Development of major design problem under the direction of a faculty member. Drawings, models, details, oral presentation for jury consideration.
