NUR  501 SPECIAL TOPICS IN ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSING      (1)

Covers special topic(s) in advanced practice nursing. Discussion focuses on issues pertinent to health of individuals, families, and communities. May be repeated for up to 3 hours of credit.

 

NUR  510 KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT IN NURSING       (2)

This course provides an overview of the interrelationships among theory, research, and advanced practice.  Students explore the patterns and processes for knowledge development and the utilization of knowledge in advanced nursing practice.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite: Admission to Nursing graduate program or permission of department

 

NUR  520 APPLIED PATHOPHYSIOLOGY FOR APNS       (3)

Conceptual approach to exploring pathophysiological phenomena that are responsive to nursing action.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite: Admission to Nursing graduate program or permission of department

 

NUR  530 METHODS IN NURSING RESEARCH       (2)

Theory and methods in nursing research designed to stimulate scholarly inquiry into nursing practice. Prerequisite: NUR 510 and (STA 270 or (BA 201 or ECO 201) or PSY 230 with  a grade greater than or equal to B)

 

NUR  540 PHARMACOLOGY FOR ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSES       (3)

Presents advanced pharmacotherapeutics of selected disease states leading to the development of theoretical applications. Prerequisite:  Admission to Nursing-Family Nurse Prac (MS) or Nursing (MS) or Nursing (MSN) or Nursing-Rural Hlth Spec (MS)

 

NUR  550 FAMILY NURSING THEORY AND PRACTICE       (3)

Addresses the theoretical basis of family-systems nursing and its application in advanced nursing practice.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite: Admission to Nursing graduate program or permission of department

 

NUR  560 RURAL THEORY AND HEALTH POLICY       (3)

Focuses on sociopolitical issues and policies affecting health care in rural areas.  Assessment of rural health issues and proposed plans for addressing these issues are emphasized.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite: Admission to Nursing graduate program or permission of department

 

NUR  562 PRINCIPLES OF CASE MANAGEMENT       (3)

Addresses case-management strategies important to achieving the fiscal and quality goals of managed care. Corequisite:  NUR 563

 

NUR  563 CASE MANAGEMENT PRACTICUM      (1)

Clinical practicum in which the role of the advanced practice nurse as a case manager will be explored.

 

NUR  570 EPIDEMIOLOGY       (3)

This course focuses on the application of the principles and methods of epidemiology for analyzing community and population health issues. Prerequisite or Corequisite: STA 570

 

NUR  572 INTERNATIONAL, INTERCULTURAL, TRANSCULTURAL HEALTH CARE IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY       (3)

This course focuses on assessing, contrasting and comparing non-Western with Western health beliefs and practices of both US minority perspectives and society's diverse populations in a global society.  Letter grade only.

 

NUR  599 CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENTS     (1-3)

Examines recent trends and investigations in a selected area of a particular field of study.  May be offered no more than three times before being submitted for a permanent course number.  May be repeated for credit.  Pass-fail or letter grade.

 

NUR  605 GRADUATE RESEARCH SEMINAR       (2)

Students apply the research process to design and implement a research or project proposal that addresses an identified health need in rural, underserved populations. Prerequisite:  NUR 510 and NUR 530

 

NUR  608 FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE       (1-12)

Capstone course. Under the direction of a clinical preceptor, course provides you with field work experience as an advanced practice nurse in a self-selected setting. Pass-fail only.  Instructor's consent required.

 

NUR  630 ROLE DEVELOPMENT       (3)

The role of the clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Educator as an Advanced Practice Nurse is explored.  Clinical role development and education strategies are emphasized. Prerequisite: NUR 560  Corequisite: NUR 631

 

NUR  631 ROLE DEVELOPMENT PRACTICUM       (1-2)

Clinical practicum in which advanced roles are explored by CNS and educator students. Prerequisite: NUR 560 and Corequisite: NUR 630

 

NUR  632 OUTCOMES AND EVALUATION:  RURAL PRACTICE       (2)

Assessment, planning, funding, and evaluation of health-care programs in rural communities. Corequisite: NUR 633

 

NUR  633 OUTCOMES EVALUATION PRACTICUM       (2)

Clinical practicum in which the advanced role of evaluator is explored by CNS and educator students. Prerequisite:  NUR 630 and NUR 631 and Corequisite:  NUR 632

 

NUR  640 ADVANCED PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING I       (3)

This course focuses on population care, public health nursing, health promotion and illness prevention, and strategies for working with communities.  Letter graded only.

 

NUR  641 ADVANCED PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING I CLINICAL PRACTICUM       (2)

This clinical practicum focuses on population care within a community setting.  An extensive community assessment and an associated teaching project will be required.

 

NUR  642 ADVANCED PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING II       (3)

This course focuses on the advanced public health nursing roles in population care.  The course also provides an overview of environmental health, political processes and disaster preparedness. Prerequisite:  NUR 640 and NUR 641 and Corequisite: NUR 643.

 

NUR  643 ADVANCED PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING II CLINICAL PRACTICUM       (2)

This clinical practicum focuses on the application of population care and public health nursing principles of health promoting and health protecting interventions. Prerequisite: NUR 640 and NUR 641 and Corequisite: NUR 642.

 

NUR  650 ADVANCED NURSING ASSESSMENT       (2)

Expands on basic health assessment, history taking, and problem-oriented medical recording to distinguish pathology. Corequisite:  NUR 651

 

NUR  651 ADVANCED NURSING ASSESSMENT PRACTICUM      (1)

Applies concepts and skills of advanced health assessment across the lifespan under supervision of faculty. Corequisite: NUR 650

 

NUR  660 FAMILY PRIMARY HEALTH CARE I       (3)

Covers health promotion and health maintenance across the life span. Introduces the diagnosis and management of common uncomplicated health conditions. Corequisite: NUR 540

 

NUR  661 FAMILY PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PRACTICUM I       (2)

Applies knowledge of assessment and management of common uncomplicated health problems in clinical settings. 8 hrs. lab. Pass-fail only. Corequisite: NUR 660

 

NUR  662 FAMILY PRIMARY HEALTH CARE II       (3)

Covers selected acute and chronic health conditions for individuals and families across the life span. Prerequisite: NUR 660 and 661

 

NUR  663 FAMILY PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PRACTICUM II      (5)

Applies knowledge of assessment and management of acute and chronic health conditions across the life span. 20 hrs. lab. Prerequisite: (NUR 660 and NUR 661) and Corequisite: NUR 662

 

NUR  664 FAMILY PRIMARY HEALTH CARE III       (3)

Continuation of NUR 662; covers selected acute, chronic, and complex health conditions for individuals and families across the life span. Prerequisite: NUR 662 and 663

 

NUR  665 FAMILY PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PRACTICUM III      (5)

Applies knowledge of assessment and management of acute, chronic, and complex health conditions across the life span. 20 hrs. lab. Pass-fail only. Prerequisite: (NUR 662 and NUR 663) and Corequisite: NUR 664

 

NUR  675 ADVANCED ROLES TRANSITION       (2)

Focuses on the nurse's transition into practice roles of negotiator, leader, and manager of health services in the rural community. Prerequisite: NUR 664 and NUR 665

 

NUR  689 PROFESSIONAL PROJECT     (1-6)

Comprehensive, synthesizing capstone project related to meeting an identified health need in a rural community.

 

NUR  697 INDEPENDENT STUDY     (1-3)

Individualized directed study on selected topics.  Pass-fail or letter grade, depending on departmental policy.  No more than 3 hours may be included on a master's program in education.  Otherwise, may be repeated for an unlimited amount of credit.

 

NUR  699 THESIS     (1-6)

Culminating experience of the master's program, provides tangible evidence of your scholarship.  May be repeated as needed.  Instructor's consent required.  Prerequisite:  Admission to master's program.
