SCI  308 SECONDARY SCIENCE TEACHER PRACTICUM      (1)

Observational and participatory experiences designed to enhance skills necessary for successful secondary science teaching.  Pass/Fail.  Prerequisite: Junior status in a science teacher preparation program; admission in teacher education program. Prerequisite:  Secondary Education Milestone and Corequisite:  SCI 460C or SCI 461

 

SCI  399 MODULAR LEARNING EXPERIENCE     (1-3)

In-depth study of an aspect, concept, or problem within a program of study. Letter grade only.  May be repeated for up to 6 hours of credit.

 

SCI  460C SECONDARY SCIENCE METHODS       (3)

Development, application, and evaluation of skills needed to be an effective secondary science teacher, including instructional methods, lesson development, and application of teaching standards.  Coconvenes with SCI 560.  Prerequisite:  Admission to teacher education program. Prerequisite:  Secondary Education Milestone and Prerequisite or Corequisite:  ECI 322 or SCI 308 CAP

 

SCI  461 SECONDARY SCIENCE TECHNIQUES       (3)

Development and use of science lab techniques to promote student understanding of science and scientific inquiry.  Coconvenes with SCI 561.  Prerequisite: Admission to teacher education  program. Prerequisite:  Secondary Education Milestone and Prerequisite or Corequisite:  ECI 322 or SCI 308

 

SCI  485 UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH     (1-6)

Original research under the supervision of a research adviser. Letter grade or pass-fail.  May be repeated for up to 6 units of credit.  Department consent required.

 

SCI  497 INDEPENDENT STUDY     (1-6)

Individualized approach to selected topics by guided reading and critical evaluation. Letter grade or pass-fail.  Department consent required.

 

SCI  499 CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENTS     (1-3)

Examines recent trends and investigations in a selected area. Letter grade only. No repeat limit.
