Our journalism plan is affiliated with the Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication. Our professors are associated with such organizations as the Society of Professional Journalists, the Society of News Design, the Arizona Newspaper Association, the National Newspaper Association, the First Amendment Congress, and the International Association of Weekly Newspaper Editors.
Our program is one of six in the nation to receive a yearly grant from the Scripps League Newspaper Education and Research Fund, which we use for student scholarships and special programs like NAU’s High-School Journalism Workshop for Minority Students. With a special endowment from the late Mark Finley, our faculty members also conduct a humorous writing competition every year. In addition, we receive scholarship grants from a variety of sources, including the Reader’s Digest Foundation.
