This academic plan is designed for students who want to pursue a career in understanding and managing land and environmental spatial data systems, including geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing applications. Practicing professionals who desire an advanced professional degree are encouraged to pursue this academic plan.
To complete this 36-unit plan, which includes completing a thesis, you take:
16 units of geographic information science core:
GGR 531, GGR 533, GGR 535 or 536, and GGR 537 or 538
(You may substitute courses depending on your prior professional work and with major advisor approval.)
a concentration of 14 units in an NAU disciplinary field, such as anthropology, archeology, biology, civil and environmental engineering, environmental science, forestry, geography, geology, political science, public administration, public planning, and sociology, among others
6 units of GGR 699, for the research, writing, and oral defense of an approved thesis
(Please be aware that you can only count 6 units of thesis credit toward your degree. However, you may end up taking more units because you must enroll for GGR 699 each term while you are working on your thesis.)
