An in-depth analysis of the human brain and the role it plays in emotions and motivated behaviors, states of consciousness such as sleep and dreaming, sensation and perception, learning and memory, behavioral disorders such as autism, depression and schizophrenia, language and communication, movement and movement disorders. PSY 566 LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP (1-12)
Supervised internship in the Arizona Legislature during spring semester. You must apply during fall semester; selection is competitive, and you must be a candidate for a graduate degree. Registration is handled by the internship coordinator after the legislature has made its final selection. Pass-fail only. Department consent.
PSY 575 SUBSTANCE ABUSE SCREENING AND ASSESSMENT SKILLS (1)
Students will receive training in essential interviewing skills, use of standardized tests, and ethical issues needed to screen, assess, and refer for substance-related problems. Students will be familiarized with ethical issues in the context of screening, assessment, and referral issues as related to substance abuse.
PSY 599 CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENTS (1-3)

PSY 683 PSYCHOPATHOLOGY (3)
This course familiarizes students with theoretical and practical issues in adult psychopathology, including major diagnostic entities contained in the DSM-IV-TR. Each diagnostic entity will be reviewed with an emphasis on diagnostic criteria, etiology, assessment and treatment. Psychiatric co-morbidity and cultural influences on the expression of mental disorders will be discussed using case examples.
