This plan is for secondary science teachers who want to expand their content and pedagogical expertise. This is a research plan, and the preceding one is an extended coursework plan in the same area. Please note that this academic plan does not result in public school teacher certification.
For this 36-unit plan, you must complete:
21 units of science content courses, chosen with your advisor, many of which may be summer courses
These courses may be organized in one of the following four ways:
a content major, which includes 21 units of coursework in a single discipline
a content emphasis of 18 units in one discipline plus 3 additional units of coursework
a dual concentration, with at least 10 units in each of two disciplines
or integrated content, with at least 6 units in each of four disciplines
9 units of science education or education courses, chosen with your advisor
6 units of research, including EDR 610 or 611 plus 3 units of SCI 699
a master’s thesis
an oral defense
