M.A. Science Teaching: Secondary HS & MS (extended coursework)

This plan is for secondary science teachers who want to expand their content and pedagogical expertise. This is an extended coursework plan, and the following one is a research plan in the same area. Please note that this academic plan does not result in public school teacher certification.

For this 36-unit plan, you must complete:

• 24 units of science content courses, chosen with your advisor, many of which may be summer courses

These courses may be organized in one of the following three ways:

a content major, which includes 24 units of coursework in a single discipline;

a content emphasis of 18 units in one discipline plus 6 additional units of coursework

or a dual concentration with 12 units in each of two disciplines

• 12 units of science education or education courses, chosen with your advisor

• a professional portfolio

• an oral defense
