This program offers advanced courses in teaching methods, curriculum, and related areas and is appropriate if you wish to enhance your teaching skills for grades K-8.
This plan is not intended to provide grades K-8 teacher certification nor does it provide an institutional recommendation for teacher certification.
For this 36 unit program, take:
one of EPS 580, 605, 610, or 611 (3 units)
one of EPS 525 or EDR 610 or 611 (3 units)
one of EDF 500, 630, 670, 671, 672, 673, or 677 (3 units)
6 units from ECI 531, 541, 551, 651, 661, or 671
6 units from ECI 521, 602, 603, 642, 643, 644, or 645
one of ECI 524, 647, 648, 593, 652, 659, or 696 (3 units)
one of ECI 620, 649, or 675 (3 units)
one of ESE 510 or 548, ETC 557, or BME 530 (3 units)
6 additional units made up of 3 units of electives and 3 units of ECI 698 for the capstone seminar
or
6 units of ECI 699 for the research, writing, and oral defense of an approved thesis
(Please note that if you choose the thesis option you may end up taking more than the 6 units of thesis credit you can count toward your degree because you must register for ECI 699 each semester while you are working on your thesis. Also note that preparing a thesis generally requires one semester of residency, in fall, spring, or summer.)
Please be aware that at least fifty percent of your courses must be at the 600 level or above. In addition, you must be admitted to this degree program before taking your last 12 units of graduate work.
Candidates in the M.Ed. in Elementary Education Continuing Professional program are required to demonstrate content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and skills, and professional knowledge to be eligible to graduate from this program. In addition to course grades, content, pedagogical, and professional knowledge or skills are demonstrated through candidate performance on key assessments embedded in the ECI 620 or ECI 675 class.
Courses are offered during fall, spring, and summer in Flagstaff and at statewide locations.
