For this 34-unit program, you must:
complete 9 units from each of two of the following four blocks (18 hours)
analysis and topology:

algebra and combinatorics:
MAT 511, 516, 526, 612, 618, and 690 (when topic appropriate)
applied Mathematics and dynamical systems:
MAT 542, 563, 661, 665, 667, and 690 (when topic appropriate)
actuarial and financial mathematics:
MAT 562, 565, 567, and 690 (when topic appropriate)
complete MAT 587 (1 unit)
if not taken within the blocks, complete MAT 531 and MAT 511 or 516 (0-6 hours)
complete 9-15 units selected with your advisor's guidance from MAT 511, 516, 526, 531, 535, 542, 562, 563, 565, 567, 612, 618, 632, 641, 661, 665, 667, 685, 690, and 697 plus STA 570, 571, 572, 574, 575, 673, 674, 675, 676, 685, and 697

perform satisfactorily on a comprehensive final oral exam conducted by your advisory committee
For this 37-unit program, you must:

complete 6 units of MAT 699, for the research, writing, and oral defense of an approved thesis
(Please note that you may end up taking more than the 6 units of thesis credit you can count toward your degree because you must register for MAT 699 each semester while you are working on your thesis.)
In addition, you must:
have a mathematics faculty member serve as your thesis advisor
get your research committee's approval of your specific thesis plan
perform satisfactorily on an oral defense of the thesis conducted by your research committee
