The W. A. Franke College of Business Certificates

General Information

We offer a number of non-degree certificates, some of which are open to all NAU students.

We guarantee your acceptance into any of our certificate plans that are open to all NAU students if you have:

• major status in The W. A. Franke College of Business

• or a 2.75 cumulative grade point average with at least 30 units earned

If you have a grade point average of less than 2.75 but at least 2.5, we will admit you into a certificate plan on a space-available basis, based on the rank order of your grade point average.

For a list of certificates open to nonbusiness majors, contact the Office of Academic Services in The W. A. Franke College of Business. If you are not a business major but wish to complete a certificate through The W. A. Franke College of Business, you must apply to the Office of Academic Services.

Also note that you must have junior status in order to enroll in upper-division business courses.

Finally, you should know that you must have at least 6 units of certificate coursework that are not used in your major or other certificates, and you must complete at least 6 units of certificate coursework at NAU.

Certificate in Accounting

To complete this certificate, you take the following 18 units with a cumulative grade point average of 2.00:

• ACC 255, 256, 300, 355, and 356 (15 units)

• ACC 302 or 460 (3 units)

Please note that this certificate is not available for accounting majors.

Certificate in Business Economics

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• ECO 284 and 285 (6 units)

• 9 units from ECO 321, 325, 356, 384, 385, 420, 425, 445, 446, 464, 473, 480, 483, 484, 486, and 498C

Please note that this certificate is not available for economics or business economics majors.

Certificate in Corporate Financial Management

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• FIN 311, 340, and 350 (9 units)

• FIN 451 (3 units)

Please note that if you are a finance major, you can’t use FIN 451 in both your major and this certificate; instead, take FIN 431.

• ACC 302 or 460 or, if you are an accounting major, ACC 402 (3 units)

Certificate in Customer Service

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• MKT 333 (3 units)

• MKT 436 (3 units)

• three of MKT 334, 337, 430, 450 or MGT 310 or 311 (9 units)

Certificate in Enterprise Systems

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• CIS 120, 310, 360, 410, 460

If you are a CIS major, you may need to take an additional upper division CIS course to complete the 6 units in the certificate that aren't used in your major or any other academic plan.  See your advisor for more information.

Certificate in Entrepreneurship

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• MGT 300I, MGT 350IW, MKT 333I and MGT 435 (12 units)

• MGT 450 or 408 (3 units)

Certificate in General Management

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• MGT 300, 311, and 411 (9 units)

• 3 units from MGT 405, 380 or MKT 480

• MGT 310 (3 units)

Certificate in Human Resource Management

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15-16 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• MGT 300, 310, 411, and 436 (12 units)

• one of ECO 464, MGT 415, or PSY 346, 347, or 402 (3-4 units)

Certificate in International Business Studies

This certificate is available to qualifying students pursuing either the B.S. in Accountancy or the B.S.B.A.

To be admitted to this certificate plan, you must be a business major and have an approved plan for completing the following requirements:

• Demonstrate a third-term proficiency in a language other than English, either by passing a language proficiency exam at the third-term level or by completing a third-term language course (201) with at least a grade of C.

• Complete 9 units from ECO 483 and 486, FIN 480, MGT 380, 405, and MKT 480.

• Complete 6 units of nonbusiness courses that enhance your understanding, knowledge, awareness, and perspectives of international affairs. (Please note that up to 6 units of this requirement may be waived with proof of an academic international experience such as study abroad or an international internship.)

Certificate in Investments

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• FIN 311, 331, and 431 (9 units)

• ACC 460 (3 units)

• one of MKT 337, 436, FIN 432 (taken 3 times) or FIN 408, with your advisor’s approval of the content (3 units)

Certificate in Promotion and Marketing Communication

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• MKT 333 (3 units)

• MKT 334 (3 units)

• MKT 438 (3 units)

• two of MKT 337, 450 and 480; ADV 307, 310, and 311W; and COM 472 (6 units)

Certificate in Systems Administration and Security

To complete this certificate, you take the following 15 units with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00:

• CIS 120, 220, 320, 370 and 490 (15 units)
