MGT  101 INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS      (3)

Introduces the functional areas of business management and how they interrelate to maximize wealth in a socially responsible way.  Students who have business major status may not enroll in this course.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite: Freshmen or Sophomore status only and not currently Bus Major Status/Business Professional Program Milestone

 

MGT  199 SPECIAL TOPICS      (1-3)

Foundations of intellectual inquiry.  In-depth study of a substantive problem.  Letter grad only.  May be repeated for up to 6 hours of credit.

 

MGT  300 MANAGING, ORGANIZING AND LEADING      (3)

The environment of organizations, planning, organizing, leading, and reviewing processes and systems. Emphasizes strategic planning, teamwork, and process design. Prerequisite: Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  300I INTEGRATED BUSINESS SEMINAR - MANAGEMENT      (3)

Introduction to management.  Discussion and application of strategic management concepts, teamwork, planning, organizing, leading, process and systems analysis.  Equivalent to MGT 300 but integrated with business communications and marketing. Prerequisite: Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  301 PRODUCTION AND OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT      (3)

Introduces the operations management function.  The course is organized around the dual concepts of building and managing world-class operations.  Letter grade only.  Course fee required. Prerequisite: Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  303 CONCEPTS IN MANAGEMENT      (3)

Surveys management of organizations; includes international, societal, and organizational structure issues. Business majors may not take this course for credit toward FCB requirements. Prerequisite: Junior Status or higher and not Business Major Status Milestone and not completing the Business Preparation Plan

 

MGT  310 HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT      (3)

Principles, functions, and practices relating to managing human resources in organizations. Emphasizes managers' social, ethical, and legal responsibilities and basic management processes, including selection, training, appraisal, compensation, and labor relations. Prerequisite: MGT 300 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  311 LEADERSHIP      (3)

Leadership, direction, and empowerment of employees and emphasis on dyadic relationships and ethical behavior. Prerequisite: MGT 300 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  350IW INTEGRATED BUSINESS SEMINAR - BUSINESS COMMUNICATION      (3)

Written and oral communication in organizations.  Emphasizes writing business reports and other business communication.  Equivalent to BA/MGT 350W but integrated with management and marketing. Corequisite: MGT 300I and Business Major Status Milestone JWRT

 

MGT  350W BUSINESS COMMUNICATION      (3)

Written and oral communication in organizations. Emphasizes writing letters, memos, and reports; speaking and listening skills; communication theory; precise word use; common pitfalls, interpersonal skills; human relation skills; and cross-cultural communication. This course fulfills NAU's junior-level writing requirement. Prerequisite:  (Admission to Enterprise in Society (BAILS) and Junior Status or higher) or Business Major Status Milestone JWRT

 

MGT  380 TOPICS IN COMPARATIVE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS PRACTICES      (3)

Surveys legal, financial, marketing, and general business management environments in the international business context.  Letter grade only.  May be repeated for up to 6 hours of credit with instructor's consent. Prerequisite: Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  385 EUROPEAN BUSINESS STRATEGIES      (3)

A study of European and international business strategies in light of changing economic, political, and social world relationships.  Three (3) credit hours when offered as part of a student's European summer studies program. Prerequisite: Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  399 SPECIAL TOPICS      (1-3)

In-depth study of an aspect, concept, or problem within a program of study. May be repeated for up to 6 hours of credit.

 

MGT  405 INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT      (3)

Influences of financial, environmental, sociocultural, political, and economic forces on management theory and practices of multinational enterprises. Prerequisite: MGT 300 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  408 FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE      (1-12)

Individualized supervised field experience in an appropriate agency or organization.  Department consent required.  Pass-fail only.  Course fee required.

 

MGT  411 TASK GROUP DYNAMICS      (3)

Interpersonal and group processes; emphasis on the development of effectively functioning project teams, empowered teams, and total quality management. Prerequisite: MGT 300 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  415 LABOR MANAGEMENT RELATIONS      (3)

History of the labor union movement. Analyzes labor-management cooperation and conflict. The institutional process of collective bargaining. Major labor laws. Prerequisite: MGT 300 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  435 NEW VENTURE PLANNING AND BUSINESS PLANS      (3)

Design, development, and evaluation of business plan for a new venture. Includes consideration of marketing, industry, financial, management, competitive, and strategic issues relating to new venture creation. Co-convenes with MGT 535.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite:  MGT 300 and Prerequisite or Corequisite:  FIN 340 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  436 ISSUES IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT      (3)

In-depth analysis of selected complex issues in human resource management with an emphasis on strategies for effective problem solution and intervention. Prerequisite: MGT 300 and Business Major Status Milestone

 

MGT  450 PROJECT MANAGEMENT      (3)

An overview of terminology, tools, and techniques for planning, scheduling and controlling projects based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) as established by the Project Management Institute.  Co-convenes with MGT 550.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite:  BA 301 or MGT 301

 

MGT  466 LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP      (1-12)

Supervised internship in the Arizona Legislature during spring semester. Students are selected on a competitive basis, and you must apply during the fall semester. (To be eligible, you must be a candidate for a bachelor's degree and have completed all lower-division requirements and attained senior status at the end of the fall semester preceding the internship.) Registration is handled by the associate provost for academic administration after the legislature has made its final selection. Pass-fail only.  May be repeated for a maximum of 12 units; not the same subject.  Department consent required.

 

MGT  470C BUSINESS IN SOCIETY      (3)

Analyzes business and its environment, considering such things as the natural environment, business ethics, governmental policies, the impact of technology, and cultural diversity. This course serves as the capstone for the BAILS emphasis in Enterprise in Society only. Prerequisite: (Admission to Enterprise in Society (BAILS) and (BA 205 or ACC 205) and (two of - FIN 303 or MGT 303 or MKT 303)) or Business Major Status Milestone for business majors CAP

 

MGT  485 UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH      (1-6)

Individualized original research under the supervision of a research adviser.  Pass-fail only.  May be repeated for up to 12 units of credit.

 

MGT  490C STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT      (3)

Role of the general manager in dealing with strategic business challenges and providing leadership to the organization; integration of functional areas, policy formulation and implementation, multinational and ethical issues.  Letter grade only.  Course fee required. Prerequisite:  Upper-Division Business Core (BA/MGT  301, FIN 311) and (CIS 360 or ACC 300) and (MGT 300 or MGT 300I) and (MKT 333 or MKT 333I) and (BA/MGT 350W or BA/MGT 350IW or ENG 302W) and Senior Status or higher and Business Major Status Milestone CAP

 

MGT  497 INDEPENDENT STUDY      (1-6)

Individualized approach to selected topics by guided reading and critical evaluation. Pass-fail only.

 

MGT  499 CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENTS      (1-3)

Examines recent trends and investigations in a selected area.  Letter grade only.
