TSM Teach Science & Math Undergraduate Courses

TSM  101 STEP 1: INQUIRY APPROACHES TO TEACHING      (1)

Students explore the teaching profession through observations and teaching science or mathematics lessons in elementary classrooms.  Letter grade only.

 

TSM  102 STEP 2: INQUIRY-BASED LESSON DESIGN      (1)

Students explore the teaching professional through observations and teaching science or mathematics lessons in middle school classrooms.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite:  TSM 101 with a grade of C or better

 

TSM  300 KNOWING AND LEARNING      (3)

A multidisciplinary perspective focusing on what it means to learn and know science and mathematics.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite:  TSM 101 with a grade of C or better or Corequisite:  TSM 101

 

TSM  350 CLASSROOM INTERACTIONS      (3)

An exploration of the role of content, pedagogy, curriculum, and technology as they promote learning and impact equity.  Contains assessments that must be successfully completed prior to apprentice teaching.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite:  Admission to the NAUTeach program, TSM 102 and 300 with grades of C or better

 

TSM  404 RESEARCH METHODS      (3)

Students design, conduct, and present four inquiries using scientific and mathematical tools.  Contains assessments that must be successfully completed prior to apprentice teaching.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite:  Admission to the NAUTeach program or instructor consent

 

TSM  450 PROJECT-BASED INSTRUCTION      (3)

Students design, implement, and evaluate project-based curricula.  Use of technology in instruction and observations of project-based learning are emphasized.  Contains assessments that must be successfully completed prior to apprentice teaching.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite:  TSM 350 with a grade of C or better or Corequisite:  TSM 350

 

TSM  495C APPRENTICE TEACHING      (12)

Students participate in teaching science and/or mathematics in the secondary schools as their capstone field experience.  Contains assessments that must be successfully completed in order to earn an Institutional Recommendation for certification.  Pass-fail only. Prerequisite:  Admission to Apprentice Teaching and department consent and Corequisite:  TSM 496C Apprentice Teaching Seminar CAP

 

TSM  496C APPRENTICE TEACHING SEMINAR      (1)

Students reflect on their apprentice teaching experiences and examine a contemporary critical issues in education.  A teaching portfolio is produced as a synthesis of the NAUTeach program.  Contains assessments that must be successfully completed in order to earn an Institutional Recommendation for certification.  Letter grade only. Prerequisite:  Admission to Apprentice Teaching and department consent and Corequisite:  TSM 495C Apprentice Teaching CAP
