Our mission in educational psychology is to help students in teacher preparation to understand and use the principles of educational psychology in pedagogy; assist at-risk college students in reaching their educational goals; prepare counseling and psychological professionals who can apply best practice in assessment, intervention, follow-up, and evaluation when working with individuals, groups, and organizations; and provide a curriculum based on a developmental, experiential training model that includes understanding theory and building assessment and intervention skills in a supervised clinical setting.
We offer no undergraduate academic plans in educational psychology; however, we do offer some undergraduate courses, (links to course listings below). The graduate degree plans offered are listed below.
You may pursue the following degrees in educational psychology:
Ph.D. in educational psychology, with a counseling psychology emphasis
Ph.D. in educational psychology, with a school psychology emphasis
Ph.D. in educational psychology, with a learning and instruction emphasis
Our academic plans are built on competency-based models and include closely supervised experiential practica and internship components. Many of these experiences are offered in the Institute for Human Development, student service facilities, public school settings, and community agencies. In addition, the College of Education houses a Skills Lab Network that includes comprehensive testing and curriculum libraries and a practicum facility that uses both videotape and direct live feedback in the supervision of students working with clients. Practicum facilities are also available at statewide offices that offer school and community counseling programs. Doctoral students also participate in research experiences with full-time faculty.
Click on any of the above degrees for a description as well as information about non-degree programs leading to certification for school psychologist, professional counselor, guidance counselor, and nationally certified counselor as well as licensed psychologist.
