This interdisciplinary certificate in health policy will provide you with a basic understanding of the societal and personal factors that form the foundation for health policy, and will provide skills in policy analysis, policy development and advocacy for policy adoption. This certificate plan includes information about the social determinants of health that policy makers must consider in making fair and equitable policy and the policy development process. If you are currently employed in the health field you become better equipped to work with health policy makers at the local, state and federal government levels and with tribal nation governments.
For the certificate you must complete at least 15 credit hours with a minimum grade point average of 3.0, as follows:
Required Courses:
PSY 636 and POS 671 (6 units)
HPI 698 (3 units). Taken only after PSY 636, POS 671 and 3 other credits from Foundation or Process courses.
Elective Courses: choose 3 units from Foundation and 3 units from Process courses.

ANT 581 (Language, Power & Medicine), HS 520 (Health Disparities), HIS 567 (Readings in Power, Culture & Ideology), WGS 601 (Topics in Feminist Studies), ES 600 (Critical Approaches to Ethnic Studies).

HS 643 (Comparative Healthcare Systems), FOR 605 (Natural Resources Policy Analysis), POS 659 Environmental Policy), CCJ 619 (Issues in Law, Policy and Social Change).
