This academic plan is designed for students who want to pursue a career in understanding and managing land, community and environmental spatial systems, including geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing, and public planning and recreation. This nonthesis plan requires a professional applied paper that is overseen by your practicum committee.
To complete this 36-unit plan, you take:
4 units of applied geospatial sciences core:
GGR 681 and 687
3 units of human geography seminar and 3 units of physical geography seminar, selected with advisor's approval from:
GGR 599, 699, PL 599 and PRM 599
a concentration of 20 units in one of the following emphasis areas, selected with your advisor's approval:
Geospatial Technologies Emphasis: GGR 531, 533, 535, 536, and 537 or 538, and up to 6 units of other NAU graduate level courses selected with the adviser’s consent.
Planning and Recreation Emphasis: PL 401, 501, 506, 521, 531, 532, 545, 599, and PRM 531 and 599, and up to 9 units of other NAU graduate level classes selected with the adviser’s consent.
Custom Geography, Planning and Recreation Emphasis: Selected from any combination of graduate level Geography, Parks and Recreation Management, and Planning courses, with adviser’s approval. Up to 12 units may be taken from other NAU graduate level courses with adviser’s approval.
