The NAUTeach program prepares secondary science and mathematics teachers for certification to teach in grades 7 through 12. Students pursuing this degree will earn a major in their content area and will be eligible for secondary certification in Arizona. The following degrees are included in this program:
You will have an academic advisor for your major coursework. You must meet with an advisor in the College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences Academic Services Professional Advising Office for the teacher-preparation portion of your plan.

In order to take NAUTeach courses beyond TSM 300, you must apply for and be admitted to the NAUTeach Program. Acceptance into the program is required before enrolling in TSM 350. Click here (Teacher Ed Applications) for the Teacher Education Program Application. Applications are accepted Fall (September 1-15th) and Spring (February 1-15th).
Admissions requirements are as follows:
Completion of TSM 101 and 102 with a grade of "C" or better.
Enrollment in TSM 300: Knowing and Learning.
Copy of fingerprint clearance card or verification of application of fingerprint card.
Completion of 30 units of course work, which includes:
a grade of at least "B" for the English foundation requirement (ENG 105 or equivalent). If you don’t receive a 3.0, you may complete an additional English writing course, at the 200-level or above, with at least a "B," to meet this requirement.
a grade of at least "C" for the Mathematics foundation requirement (MAT 125 or 125H, 136 or 136H, or equivalent)
completion of at least three units of content major work.
A minimum grade point average of 2.5 in all content major course work.
A declared science or mathematics B.S.Ed. major.
In order to apply for student apprentice teaching, you must meet the following requirements:
Complete and submit a Student Teaching Application one year in advance. Applications are accepted Fall (September 21-October 12) and Spring (March 21-April 12).
Provide evidence that all degree courses will be completed by the time you enroll in (ECI 495C or TSM 495C) and 496C.
Have a cumulative 2.5 grade point average in all NAU course work.
Take the appropriate AEPA Subject Knowledge test (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics, or Physics), which is recommended during the 6th term.
The Student Apprentice Teaching field experience (ECI 495C or TSM 495C) and Seminar (TSM 496C) meets NAU’s senior capstone requirement (13 units). To participate in these courses you must:
Be admitted to Student Apprentice Teaching.
Complete TSM 101, 102, and 300 with a grade of "C" or better
Complete the following five courses, earning a grade of "B" or better in four of the five courses and earning a "C" or better in the remaining course.
TSM 350, 404, and 450 (9 units)
BME 300 and 437 (6 units)
In order to graduate from the NAUTeach program, you must:
Pass ECI 485C or TSM 495C.
Receive a grade of "B" or better in TSM 496C.
Have a grade point average of at least 2.5 in all NAU course work.
In order to gain certification in Arizona to teach mathematics or science, you must meet the following in addition to completing the B.S.Ed. degree:
You must satisfy the Arizona and Federal Constitution proficiency requirement through special test, or completion of POS 220, or completion of POS 110 and 241, or equivalent courses within the first three years of initial certification.
You must pass both the AEPA Secondary Professional Knowledge test and the Subject Knowledge test (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics, or Physics). There is no secondary general science subject knowledge test requirement.
You must complete and submit an application for teacher certification through the Arizona Department of Education.
