Are you transferring from an Arizona community college?

If you are currently attending a community college in Arizona, there is an entire Arizona Transfer Model with which you should become familiar. This model includes agreements between the public community colleges and universities in Arizona.

Below you will find links to some of the "tools" that you should find immediately useful.

One of the many advantages of this model is the amount of information available to students regarding the transferability of courses from the Arizona community colleges to the universities. This information can be found in the AZTransfer. If you have questions or comments about the Arizona Transfer Model, be sure to let us know: Undergraduate.Admissions@nau.edu.

  • Transfer Guides

A very valuable tool that you will find in AZTransfer are Transfer Guides. If you know the major in which you plan to enroll in at NAU (or another state university) and you are attending an Arizona community college, the corresponding transfer guide will provide you with the list of courses that transfer directly into your university major.  Visit our Transfer Guide Information page for more information and how to access them.

  • AGEC - what is an AGEC?

Briefly, the AGEC is one way to complete your general education requirements. NAU encourages students who begin their general education course work at NAU to complete it at NAU. Likewise, those students attending Arizona community colleges and begin the AGEC, are encouraged to complete this block of 35 credits at the Arizona community college (although it is not required.) These courses transfer to any Arizona public university and fulfill lower-division general education requirements.

Additionally, Arizona residents who complete the AGEC before applying to NAU are eligible for admission.

  • CEG

Another tool in AZTransfer is the Course Equivalency Guide (CEG). To access the CEG, go to the AZTransfer homepage at http://www.aztransfer.com/home and click the "Course Equivalency Guide (CEG)" link at the bottom of the page in the dark blue area. You will be taken to the CEG homepage. Choose the appropriate community college, then choose a prefix (discipline) from the list that will be given to you. Scroll through the list of courses to view the university equivalencies for your course(s). The CEG will give you information about how a course will transfer into NAU. The CEG will not always give you the best information about how your transfer courses will apply to major(s) or minor(s).

Are you transferring from one of the Arizona public four year universities?

Please work with a NAU advisor on how your courses may transfer.

The information in AZTransfer is not a substitute for an academic advisor. It should be used in conjunction with your academic advisor at the community college and/or at Northern Arizona University.

Are you transferring from a private Arizona school or an out-of-state institution?

Visit the Out-of-State & Non-AZ-Transfer Articulation web page.

If you transfer to NAU from a California community college and your transcript certifies that you completed an Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), you also have satisfied NAU’s liberal studies requirements. (The IGETC serves a function similar to Arizona’s AGEC, as described above.)

Are you an international student?

For more information on international student transfer, please visit the website of the NAU Center for International Education Office.
