General Transfer Guide Information:

What is a Transfer Guide?

The NAU Transfer Guides present lower-division courses required or recommended for undergraduate degree programs at Northern Arizona University, along with the equivalent or acceptable course(s) at an Arizona community college. These guides should be used in conjunction with the Northern Arizona University Undergraduate Catalog and the Course Equivalency Guide. The transfer guides are designed to assist students who have chosen the course of study they will pursue toward a baccalaureate degree at Northern Arizona University.

How to Use the Transfer Guides

Students should work with their community college advisor, using the tools mentioned here, to plan their lower-division program of study to allow the most efficient transfer into their chosen NAU baccalaureate degree program.

Satisfying Liberal Studies Requirements

All undergraduate degrees require a liberal studies component. Many majors and upper-division courses have prerequisites which may also satisfy liberal studies requirements. Please refer to the appropriate transfer guide and/or Liberal Studies course listings to determine if this applies to a chosen major.

The liberal studies component may be satisfied through completion of courses, as presented in NAU's Liberal Studies Program, or their community college equivalents. Another option is the completion of an AGEC or TGECC. For more information on NAU's Liberal Studies programs or the AGEC/TGECC please follow the links in the left margin.

Transferred Credits

A maximum of 64 hours of community college credit may be applied to a baccalaureate degree program in the 1999-2001 Undergraduate Catalog at NAU. All transferable community college credits are accepted as lower-division credits and do not satisfy upper-division liberal studies. Any community college courses which show equivalencies to upper-division courses at NAU have been deemed to be similar in content and will be transferable as equivalent but with lower-division credit. The course need not be repeated, but will not count toward any required upper-division credits hours.

There are two ways to access Transfer Guides – in a static format, and in an interactive format. Following are instructions about how to access both versions of the transfer guides.

Please be aware that regardless of which version of the transfer guides you choose to access, you will be seeing the same program information. The benefit to using the interactive transfer guides is that you can enter transfer coursework already completed, or planned to be completed in the future, and see how that coursework will apply to the requirements in your program.
