| B.A. in Liberal Studies MAJOR REQUIREMENTS |

| Students must have an emphasis of 21-28 hours. A listing of approved BAILS emphases is included in the 1999-2001 Undergraduate Catalog. All emphases include a capstone course which is upper division and will be completed at NAU. |
| A focus of 15 hours of an individually structured interdisciplinary or disciplinary program of study outside the students emphasis field is required. These courses focus on a common field or theme and are selected with the help of the students BAILS advisor. |
| A communication block of 23 hours as follows: |
| 3 hours of computer information (CIS) or computer science courses (CSE) |
| 6 hours of writing intensive courses beyond ENG
105. One selection must be an approved Junior Level Writing Requirement
which will be completed at NAU. These courses are selected with the help of the students BAILS advisor. |
| 6 hours of oral communication courses These courses are selected with the help of the students BAILS advisor. |
| 8 hours of a language other than English
selected from the same language. American Sign Language counts as fulfilling this requirement. |
| A combined grade point average of 2.5 or better is required for all emphases and focus courses (averaged together). A 2.0 grade point average in all work attempted at the university is required for graduation. |
| This degree must include a minimum total of 36 hours of upper division coursework. |
