Program Field Leader
¬ Name of organization:
Grand Canyon Trust
¬ Location of

Flagstaff, Arizona
¬ Website of

¬ Brief description of
organization:
The mission of the Grand Canyon Trust (GCT) is to protect and restore the
Colorado Plateau--its spectacular landscapes, flowing rivers, clean air,
diversity of plants and animals, and areas of beauty and solitude. We work
toward a region where generations of people and all of nature can thrive in
harmony. Our vision for the canyon country of the Colorado Plateau one
hundred years from now is a region still characterized by vast open spaces
with restored, healthy ecosystems and habitat for all native plants and
animals; a sustaining relationship between human communities and the natural
environment, and people living and visiting here who are willing and
enthusiastic stewards of the region’s natural resources and beauty.
The GCT Volunteer Program works collaboratively with
public land management agencies, tribes, and universities to implement
volunteer-supported research, restoration, and conservation projects.
Each year more than 400 volunteers donate over
15,000 hours of their time to hands-on conservation and restoration projects
on National Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service
and tribal lands. The program focuses on projects on public lands that are
science-based, that work toward solutions, and that support the conservation
efforts and mission of the GCT. These projects present exciting
opportunities to educate the public and connect them with critical
environmental issues, tackle on-the-ground conservation and restoration
projects, and build a constituency for the special lands on the Colorado
Plateau.
