Vlunteering Specialist (Full-Time)

 ¬ Location of organization: Position based in Flagstaff

¬ Brief description of organization:  Individualized services for Juvenile Court-referred youth and their families to increase youths' prosocial life skills, beliefs, motivations, and successes while protecting community and preventing delinquency 

¬ Title of AmeriCorps service assignment: Volunteering Specialist (Full-Time)

 

 

AmeriCorps Service Assignment Description:

  1. Assist staff with creating agency-wide systems to recruit, screen, select, train, and evaluate community volunteers for various Juvenile Court programs.
  2. Recruit volunteers through community networking with related organizations, events, presentations, etc.
  3. Assist staff in consistent completion of background checks and polygraphs, as required, for all volunteers.
  4. Assist staff in assigning and scheduling volunteers according to identified agency needs and volunteer skills and interests.
  5. Assist staff in planning and implementing volunteer orientation, training, and in services.
  6. Assist staff in developing volunteer support and recognition processes.
  7. Assist staff in developing a system to maintain volunteer files and track volunteer hours.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

AmeriCorps Member Qualifications:

1.    Must have strong communication skills—especially in the areas of listening well, explaining information clearly, business writing, and nurturing positive relationships with many different types of people.

2.    Skills in planning, organizing, and actively participating in meetings helpful.

3.    Must have high ethical standards and uphold Arizona Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees.

4.    Must pass a background check and polygraph.  (Will not be considered if have used marijuana within the past 12 months or dangerous drugs and/or narcotics with the past 3 years.) 

5.    Must be self-motivated and enjoy working independently while maintaining regular communication with mentor.

6.    Needs to have an interest in practicing and performing public speaking.

7.    Skills and/or interest in social marketing useful.

8.    Computer skills, especially e-mail, word processing, database, and PowerPoint important.

9.    Will need to travel within Flagstaff to accomplish duties and possibly to outlying areas such as Williams or Page (mileage reimbursement available outside Flagstaff).

10. May need to work some evening and/or weekend hours to recruit volunteers at community events.
