The primary focus of this service assignment is education.
Brief description of organization: Sharon Manor is a Transitional Home
for women and children, who are survivors of domestic violence, are
homeless, motivated and desire to work toward self-reliance, stability
and a brighter future.
AmeriCorps Service Assignment Description:
This assignment will include working in the Sharon Manor Children’s
Enrichment Program. The AmeriCorps member will work directly as a child
care provider with children ages infant through 17 years old that have
been exposed to a domestic violence background. The program runs Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with occasional field trips and
activities on Saturdays. The other part of the assignment will be the
responsibility of developing and maintaining partnerships with agencies,
businesses, and individuals in the community to provide group
programming, nutritional snacks and food, resources and supplies. Phone
contact, email and/or face-to-face contact will be used as appropriate.
This part of the assignment will be completed during regular business
hours Monday through Friday or when those parties or most reachable.
They will work under the supervision of the Children’s Program
Coordinator.
1. Direct care of children participating in the Sharon Manor Children’s
Enrichment Program.
2. Develop/maintain partnerships with agencies, businesses, and
individuals in the community to provide group programming, nutritional
snacks and food, resources and supplies.
3. Assist with planning and implementation of developmentally
appropriate programming for children ranging in a ge from infant to
teen.
4. Collaborate with parents, staff, and outside agencies to provide
services for children.
5. Assist staff with occasional Sharon Manor community and seasonal
events.
AmeriCorps Member Qualifications:
1. Must have experience and training equivalent to an Associate’s
Degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Development Services,
Elementary Education or related field or a minimum of 3 years experience
implementing programs for children.
2. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some day, night,
and weekend hours.
3. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills in word processing, e-mailing and other
pertinent software programs.
5. Experience working in a multicultural setting.
6. Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or
crawl, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
7. Occasionally required to climb or balance and must frequently lift
and/or move up to 50 pounds.
8. Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and the noise
level is often loud.
