AmeriCorps Member Responsibilities: Service Assignment Project ¬ Name of organization: American Conservation Experience ¬ Location of organization: Flagstaff, AZ ¬ Website of organization: www.usaconservation.org ¬ Brief description of organization: ACE brings together young adults from different cultures, races, and backgrounds to accomplish a wide variety of environmental conservation projects on public lands throughout Arizona and Southern Utah. The emphasis of ACE is on service-learning and cultural awareness through engagement in challenging, production-oriented projects in inspiring outdoor locations. ¬ Title of AmeriCorps service assignment: Assistant Crew Supervisor 1. Assist ACE Crew Supervisor in overseeing the safety and productivity of field crews. 2. Lead crews in absence of ACE Crew Supervisor. Serve as backup supervisor. 3. Help coordinate project logistics 4. Lead split crews when the crew supervisor and the assistant crew supervisor must oversee different components of the same project. 5. Drive ACE vans safely 6. Learn ACE field skills such as trail construction, fence building technique, and survey technique and teach ACE members these skills. AmeriCorps Member Qualifications: 1. Must be interested in using this opportunity to prepare for a position as ACE Crew Supervisor. ACE assistant crew supervisors are always to be seen as Crew Supervisors in training. 2. Must be willing and able to work 8 consecutive days in the field, 10 hours per day, followed by 6 days off 3. Must have clean driving record 4. Must be willing to participate in supplemental weekend trainings, including Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and 15 passenger van safety training 5. Must be drug free and must be willing to abide by ACE rules against alcohol on projects or in ACE housing.
