Coconino County Juvenile Court Services

Prevention/Programming Specialist (Part-Time) 

¬ Location of organization: Position based in Flagstaff

¬ Brief description of organization: Individualized services for Juvenile Court-referred youth and their families to increase youths' prosocial life skills, beliefs, motivations, and successes while protecting community and preventing delinquency 

¬ Title of AmeriCorps service assignment: Prevention/Programming Specialist (Part-Time)

 AmeriCorps Service Assignment Description:

  1. Engage in prevention activities and projects to build Developmental Assets in the community;
  2. With mentor, identify community sector(s) and groups to target in order to educate them about the Assets framework and strengths-based concepts related to young people;
  3. Track contacts, presentations, progress, and success stories, updating supervisor weekly;
  4. Assist Juvenile Court staff with programming activities for Court-involved youth;
  5. May assist with youth mentoring or parenting programs in Coconino County;
  6. May assist with Children of Incarcerated Parents Task Force;
  7. May need to work periodic evening and/or weekend hours.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

AmeriCorps Member Qualifications:

1.    Interest in being part of a positive community change effort to create opportunities for all young people to grow up caring, healthy, and responsible in Coconino County.

2.    Interest in and/or experience with helping Court-involved youth build pro-social life skills.

3.    Must pass a background check and polygraph.  (Will not be considered if have used marijuana within the past 12 months or dangerous drugs and/or narcotics with the past 3 years.) 

4.    Must have strong communication skills—especially in the areas of listening well, explaining information clearly, business writing, and nurturing positive relationships with many different types of people.

5.    Must have high ethical standards, uphold Arizona Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees, and model Asset-building behaviors and attitudes.

6.    Must be self-motivated and enjoy working independently while maintaining regular communication with mentor.

7.    Skills in planning, organizing, and actively participating in meetings helpful.

8.    Interest in practicing and performing public speaking.

9.    Skills and/or interest in social marketing useful.

10. Computer skills, especially PowerPoint, e-mail, and word processing.
