Kaibab Learning Center-*November Start date*

Title of AmeriCorps service assignment: Grant and Project Coordinator
Full-time, 1700 hrs.

¬ Brief description of organization:

Kaibab Learning Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves a diverse community in and around Grand Canyon National Park.  The goal of Kaibab Learning Center (KLC) is to provide educational-based daycare programs for children (infants through school-age) that are developmentally appropriate in a safe and nurturing environment. We have a unique center in which the community, parents, children and staff work together to provide a high quality day care program. We seek to provide affordable and reliable childcare for those children whose parents work in, or near the Grand Canyon National Park.  In addition to childcare we provide valuable educational experiences that are developmentally based, fostering social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth and development. Programs are provided in a way that serve a wide range of developmental needs. 

We live in a very unique community.  There is a grocery store, recreation center and workout/weight room, clinic, and post office located within the Grand Canyon National Park.  KLC is also located within Grand Canyon National Park.

*Housing will be available to the member of which the member will be requested to pay a portion of the total rent along with utilities .*

AmeriCorps Service Assignment Description:

This assignment has work hours for the entire calendar year.  We operate year round- Monday-Friday from 7:30 am -5:30 pm.

  1. Work with the administrator to establish timetable and requirements needed  to achieve Quality First goals and Early Childhood Education
  2. Research and draft written grant proposals with the Fundraising Chair of  the Board to support an after school program, early childhood reading program, others as identified in planning. (ongoing)
  3. Assist in updating our Blog and developing quarterly newsletter and help promote and market the Center. (ongoing)
  4. Provide support services in other educational services, arts and crafts, extra curricular and enrichment activities that take place within the school.(ongoing)
  5. Help with logistics and promotions for special events.(as needed)
  6. Coordinates summer programming. (2 months in the summer)
  7. Succession planning to keep project moving forward and to make a smooth transition to next volunteer.
  8. May do other duties as assigned.  

AmeriCorps Member Qualifications:

  1. Preferred background in Early Childhood Education
  2. Self motivated, understand what needs to be done, ask questions about assignment to gain a complete understanding toward the targeted goal
  3. Team player, yet can work independently at times
  4. Excellent computer skills: windows, excel, internet
  5. Strong communication skills
  6. Strong writing skills
  7. Efficient time management and multitasking skills
  8. Enjoys working with people from a variety of backgrounds.
