Hawthorn
Crataegus spp
The genus Crataegus is a complex group of trees and shrubs with over 100 species native to North America and another 100 species native to Europe and Asia. A member of the rose family, the fruit can be very delicious, but for some reason has been ignored by U.S. fruit growers.
Two smaller, rare species of Crategus are native to Arizona: cerro hawthorn (C. erythropoda) and river hawthorn (C. rivularis).
