Program Description

Our program consists of about 100 cadets.

Academics: Army ROTC emphasizes academic excellence. Our cadets have a wide range of academic majors from Physics and Nursing to Political Science. Our students excel in academics with the current Senior Class maintaining an impressive 3.4 cumulative GPA.

Training: The Lumberjack Battalion conducts exciting realistic training throughout the school year. We conduct demanding organized physical fitness training every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning (many cadets choose to conduct physical training at least five or six days a week).  Cadets can expect to complete several foot marches each semester along with at least two M-16 firing ranges each year.

Cadets are also taught land navigation skills and are required to put those skills to the test in both day and night environments on demanding terrain. The land navigation tests are conducted once each semester on the land navigation course located at Navajo Army Depot.

Perhaps the most valuable training cadets receive is in leadership. Cadets learn leadership in a classroom environment and are required to apply it as they operate the organization on a day to day basis. As cadets progress through our program, their level of responsibility increases. The cadets must hone their leadership skills to meet the increased responsibility and keep the organization operating at peak efficiency.  The lessons they learn here will make them successful in and out of the U.S. Army.

Warrior Forge (LDAC): When Cadets attend LDAC their performance is evaluated and every cadet is placed in either the top, middle or bottom third of their training Regiment. Each Regiment has approximately 300 cadets representing all 270 schools across the United States that have Army ROTC programs. Every cadet from Northern Arizona University that attended LDAC in 2004 was placed in the top 1/3rd of their Regiments. (Click here for more information on LDAC)

Military Schools: Due to our demanding physical fitness program and the high level of professionalism of our cadets, Northern Arizona Army ROTC maintains a 100 percent graduation rate from Airborne, Air Assault and Mountain Warfare Schools. Color guard: Our color guard is highly sought after by the university and many other organizations around Northern Arizona. In 2004 the color guard completed fifteen color guard missions around Northern Arizona. (click here for more information on our Color guard)
