Master Sergeant John Silva - Senior Military Science Instructor

Master Sergeant John Silva entered the United States Army on July 26th, 1995 and attended training at Fort Knox Kentucky as an Armor Crewman. MSG Silva has held every Armor leadership position from Tank Gunner to Troop First Sergeant. He has also participated in multiple combat and contingency operations.

His assignments include duty with 1st Squadron, 16th Cavalry, Fort Knox, Kentucky, 1st Battalion, 77th Armor, Schweinfurt, Germany, 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor, Fort Riley, Kansas, Mobile Gun System Program Management, Warren, Michigan, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry, Fort Stewart, Georgia, 3ID NCOA, Fort Stewart, Georgia, Timberwolf O/C Team, Hohenfels, Germany, Warrior Transition Battalion, Vilseck , Germany, C Troop and HHT, 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry, Fort Hood, Texas. He is currently the Senior Military Instructor at Northern Arizona University.

MSG Silva's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (with 1 oak leaf cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal, (with 2 oak leaf clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with 3 oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with 4 oak leaf clusters), Good Conduct Medal (5th award) the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal (with bronze star), Iraq Campaign Medal (with 2 bronze stars), the Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral three), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award), and the Combat Action Badge. MSG Silva is also a member of the Order of St. George.

His military education includes the M1A1 Master Gunner Course, Instructor Trainer Course, Senior Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, and the Warrior Leader Course. MSG Silva holds an Associate's Degree in General Studies and is pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.
