Northern Arizona University Elderhostel

Services: Elderhostel is a non-profit educational organization for people 55 years and older based in Boston, MA. NAU is one of over 1800 sponsors worldwide offering programs to this population. Programs take place throughout northern Arizona and the Four Corners including Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Page, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Mesa Verde, and Petrified Forest.

Programs

  • Traditional (lecture and fieldtrip format)
  • Intergenerational (grandparents and grandchildren)
  • Service (working with northern Arizona organizations like Grand Canyon National Park, Coconino National Forest, Habitat for Humanity and other organizations on service projects)
  • Applied Arts and Crafts (intensive arts programs offered in Sedona)
  • Active Outdoors (like hiking and biking on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon)
  • Moving Programs (trips on motor coach throughout the region)
  • Most programs are 5-6 nights long, some are as long as 10 nights.
  • NAU Elderhostel offers approximately 200 weeks of programming per year. This includes a full slate of computer weeks especially geared to the mature learner.
  • Offers commuter rates for qualified area residents enrolling in Elderhostel programs in Flagstaff and Sedona.
  • Provide transportation between lodging/food/classroom/fieldtrip sites.

Qualifications: Individual needs to be 55 years old to enroll in a program. However, they may bring a companion who has not reached the required age.

Fees: Vary, depending on program offered.
