CSW Committee on Scholarships/Fundraising:

2007-2008

CSW has decided to rename our Scholarship Fund to the Martha Portree Scholarship Fund in honor of our late friend, Martha Portree, who was a dedicated member of CSW.

This year the scholarship went to students, Joyce Ellis and Emily Munger--$500 each.

CSW Awards & Nominations

Since 2006, CSW has awarded women on campus or organizations that have made a significant or outstanding contribution to the advancement of women at NAU. We do this by selecting from nominations sent to us by the NAU community.  Nomination forms for the 2007-2008 Diversity and Equity Awards can be downloaded here (Form Directions to Complete Form).  Email us with your nominations at csw.office@nau.edu.

In 2006-2007, the CSW Scholarship Selection Committee noted that there were many excellent candidates (single moms working full-time who were also full-time students in good academic standing) who were eligible for the CSW Scholarship. Due to a lack of funds we could only award this to two students. Please help us reward more women.

Donate directly to the CSW Scholarship Fund (# 4904) or to the CSW Discretionary Fund (# 4880). See http://www.advancement.nau.edu/forms/WEB_PR_Ded_Pledge_Form.pdf for the printable form OR http://www.advancement.nau.edu/ to give online.

2006-2007 Diversity & Equity Awards

On March 29, 2007, at the Diversity & Equity Banquet hosted by President Haegar, CSW  announced winners of the CSW Outstanding Achievement and Contribution Awards and the CSW Scholarships for 2006. Winners of the Scholarships were Christina Gaff and Fern Wesley, two students at NAU. Winners of the Awards were Lisa Downey and Laurie Kelley.

The Award Committee decided the winners in early March. The Scholarship Committee decide the winners soon after. This year there were many excellent candidates and the committees were regretful that they could only select two winners for each category.

The monetary prize for the CSW Scholarship was $500 each. The CSW Award winners will receive a plaque from CSW and a gift-certificate from NAU Bookstore.

Unfortunately, it is an invitations only event, but we do invite everyone at NAU to send their nominations for the CSW Outstanding Achievement and Contributions Award. See below for forms and directions.

CSW also offers Scholarships of $500 to two single moms working full-time who were also full-time students in good academic standing. The CSW Scholarship Selection Committee selects winners, and this is not open to the public.

2005-2006

The Fundraising and Scholarship Committee along with the support of the CSW Commissioners sponsored four fundraisers during the 2005-2006 academic year.  The 3rd Annual Silent Auction was moved to the fall and raised around $1,500.  A Format solicitation letter was sent to NAU faculty, staff and alumni at the end of the Fall semester, and the 2nd Annual Garage Sale was held in April.  In addition, Commissioners were encouraged to contribute via payroll deduction.  With the proceeds from these fundraisers, as well as, the foundation funds remaining from the previous academic year, CSW was able to fund two $500 scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year.  In addition to the $500 scholarships, CSW also received a donation of two $75 bookstore gift-certificates from the Office of Academic Assessment, which were also awarded to the scholarship recipients.  Rebecca Garcia and Heather Seagle were the 2006-2007 CSW Scholarship Recipients.  Both recipients were invited and recognized for academic excellence and service to their communities at the 2006 NAU Diversity and Equity Awards dinner.

The annual CSW garage sale was held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 near downtown Flagstaff. There was great participation by CSW members, with Elizabeth Hellstern providing a great location, lots of donations, baked goods, and plenty of volunteers for sorting, pricing, organizing and staffing the sale.  Weather threatened our schedule, with rain and snow on Friday night, as the sale was being readied.  But the morning was sunny. The sale began promptly, and it wrapped up in the early afternoon with all remaining items being donated to Goodwill.  Approximately $1,000 was netted for the CSW scholarship fund.
