How to Enroll in a CTE Class

Below are step-by-step directions for enrolling in a CTE class.  If you are already an admitted student you can skip steps #1 and #2.  If you have ANY problems with the online system, call the help desk at 888-520-7215 or 928-523-9294- they are available 7 days per week (hours vary by term).  It is helpful if you can be online when you call them so they can walk you through the process.

Enrollment deadlines are established for every semester.  You can check deadlines for registration, adding a class, dropping a class, etc. at http://www.distance.nau.edu/intersession/start/calendar.aspx

To Register for any CTE Class:

  1. You first need to be admitted as a student at Northern Arizona University.  You can apply and be admitted as a "non-degree seeking student."  Non-degree seeking graduate admission is $25.  Non-degree seeking undergraduate admission is $0 for Arizona residents and $25 for non-residents.  You can apply and pay online.  Transcripts are not needed to be admitted with a non-degree seeking status.  It takes 24 - 48 hours for your graduate application to be processed.  Undergraduate applications take 2-4 weeks.  Make sure you pay the fee online or via the telephone.  You can call 888-667-3628 x1122 (Bursar's Office) to pay the admission fee or you can fax your credit card information to the Bursar at 928-523-0009.  You can call 888-667-3628 to inquire about the status of your undergraduate admission, call the same number and ask for graduate admissions to inquire about the status of graduate admission (or dial the graduate college direct 928-523-4348).  Make sure you select "online" as your "campus" when getting admitted to NAU for taking our online classes.  If you are being admitted into the Occupational Education or Masters in CTE degrees your campus should also be "online".  If you are being admitted into one of our secondary degree programs (Business Ed, Ind Tech, or FACS Ed) you will need to choose the campus where you will be taking your ECI courses (which for most students is the "Mountain Campus" in Flagstaff).

  1. After completing step #1 (and waiting 24-48 hours) go to http://www.nau.edu/password to set up your Louie User ID (also referred to as your DANA account) and password.  This Louie ID will allow you access to all online student services including registration.
  2. You can then use your Louie ID to access the online system to check your application status, register for classes, pay fees, etc.  The online system can be accessed at http://www.nau.edu/louie ; use your Louie ID and password to login.  Once you are logged into the system following the following chain of menus to do the following common tasks:

Add/Drop Classes (The CTE homepage nau.edu/cte has the course numbers needed for registration)
[ SA Self Service > Learner Services > Academics > Enroll in a Class ]

To Pay Registration Fees  (Tuition and fee information can be found at http://home.nau.edu/bursar/)
 [ SA Self Service > Learner Services > Finances > Make a Payment ]

To Check Admission Status
[ SA Self Service > Learner Services > Admissions > View Application Status ]

Important:  If you are an out-of-state student (taking CTE classes) you are eligible to receive reduced out-of-state tuition rates (they will be 150% of in-state rates instead of the full out-of-state rates).  When you go to add a class in Louie, after you choose the semester,  there is a link at the bottom of the page that says "WWU" - make sure you click this link and select the yellow box link "check eligibility".  This is the way your tuition rates will be adjusted.

If you have ANY problems with the online system, call the help desk at 888-520-7215 or 928-523-9294- they are available 24/7.  It is helpful if you can be online when you call them so they can walk you through the process.
