What's Your Story, continued -
We have such a rich history, individually and collectively! From “The Epic of Gilgamesh” to the Brothers Grimm, and on to our inner and private scripts, storytelling plays a major role in how we live our lives. Author and storyteller, Tom Robbins once said, “We are the stars of our own movies.” In art and in life, we develop ideas about how things are, were, and look to us.
Stories teach us how to act in certain situations. They bring wisdom over time and healing as we experience life. Stories are good… except when they’re not. We can review our stories, edit them, and pull from them to live healthier and richer lives!
This semester EAW will be offering some workshops that focus on the theme of “stories:” how we create them for ourselves, how we express them, how we learn from them, how we are affected by them, and how we can create new directions for our lives through them.
As we live, we create. Join us in exploring tools to celebrate the story and its place in our lives!
Flu Prevention
As NAU launches into this fall semester, the community is buzzing with information about flu prevention in hopes of averting an outbreak. We all play an important role in preventing the spread of influenza and H1N1 flu viruses among our campuses. Visit nau.edu/flu to learn more about the university’s response to flu concerns.
Be sure to keep in mind these easy steps to prevent the spread of flu on campus and at home:
1. Wash hands frequently – especially after you cough or sneeze; use soap and water when available or an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
2. Cough or sneeze into a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash immediately.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth – germs spread that way.
4. Avoid using other employees’ phones, desks, work equipment, etc., if possible.
5. If you are sick or have flu symptoms, contact your healthcare provider, stay home from work and limit contact with others. Follow the regular departmental process for notifying your supervisor.
Other ways you can boost your immune system to prevent infection:
1. Get vaccinated.
2. Eat nutrient-rich foods.
3. Exercise regularly.
Try new immune-boosting recipes featuring foods rich in antioxidants and omega three fatty acids.
Seasonal Flu Vaccinations - postponed due to lack of vaccine
Healthwaves has vaccine on order, so we plan to offer two more clinics when the vaccine arrives.
Other options for vaccination include:
Coconino County Health Department: call 679-7300 to set up an appointment during their Monday, Wednesday or Friday immunization hours. Vaccine is only available for children and those at highest risk for infection.
Walk-in Medical Care: call 527-1920 for details.
Faculty and staff working outside of Flagstaff are encouraged to seek vaccination from their health care provider or local health department.
H1N1 (Swine) Flu Information
Coconino County Health Department is administering H1N1 vaccine according to their high-risk priority list. Call 679-7300 for more information.
Aerobic Winter Challenge
Aerobic Winter Challenge (AWC) is a team-oriented incentive program to encourage regular physical activity during the winter months of November through February. The goal is for each member of your team of 5 to 10 people to complete 30 minutes of physical activity per day, a minimum of 12 to 16 days per month. Individual participants and teams are eligible for monthly prize drawings.
DISTANCE SITES ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE AS WELL!
EAW is currently recruiting volunteers to pull together a team of coworkers and/or family members (18 years and older) to motivate your peers to stay active all winter long. If you’re interested in being a Team Leader, pull together your team and send your paperwork to EAW by 5:00 p.m. on October 20.
