AQCP Teacher Resources
Visibility Case Study Resources:
Background Information
Our national parks and wilderness
areas were set aside in part because of their fabulous vistas and scenery.
These two case studies investigate the issue of visibility in two of the
most heavily visited national parks - the Grand Canyon and Great Smoky
Mountains. Both of these areas have special significance to the indigenous
tribes in the area. The web site of the
Interagency
Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) "provides access
to monitoring data resources and educational material on the science of
visibility and regulations" which serves as an excellent introduction to
the topic.
You may find it helpful to do some general air quality activities with your students at the beginning of your investigations.
Other suggested activities for asthma include Air Quality Word Search,
(This is a PDF file, so you will need Adobe
Acrobat Reader to open it. It's free!) Pyramid Game,
and In a Polluted Cloud activity/demonstration.

Forms
Please help us improve our case studies and activities by asking your students to complete
the feedback form after each activity. These may be printed and mailed to us at:
EEOP - AQCP
NAU Box 5768
Flagstaff, AZ 86011-5768
A feedback form with space for 1 case study
and 3 activities can be printed here.
Feel free to send multiple copies if you use more than this number of cases and/or
activities from these materials.
