University of Arizona

The University of Arizona offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science as “a University-wide Major” within the Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences Department in the College of Agriculture. http://www.ag.arizona.edu/SWES/

The interdisciplinary program has four basic features:

  1. a focus on evaluating and mitigating environmental pollution;
  2. examination of human impact on developed lands;
  3. a rigorous science core curriculum; and,
  4. flexibility in designing a personal course of study after core requirements are met.

The University of Arizona also offers Bachelor’s degrees in Irrigation and Water Resources Engineering at the Biosystems/Biological Engineering Department at the College of Agriculture. http://ag.arizona.edu/ABE/

The School of Renewable Natural Resources at the U. of A. offers undergraduate degrees designed for future managers and administrators of Arizona’s renewable natural resources. Degrees are offered in Landscape Studies, Watershed Resources, Rangeland & Forest Resources and Wildlife & Fisheries Resources. http://www.ag.arizona.edu/srnr/

The Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics Department prepares engineers who will design, construct, manage and maintain infrastructure features like bridges, tunnels, dams, power plants, water treatment and waste disposal systems. The University of Arizona’s Chemical and Engineering Department Engineering offers degrees in water supply, wastewater treatment and environmental hydrology aimed at improving the chemical processes at work in fresh water and wastewater treatment facilities. www.che.arizona.edu/

Baccalaureate programs and degrees in basic applied organismic, evolutionary and environmental biology are offered at the U of A’s Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. http://eebweb.arizona.edu/index.html-ssi

The Department of Geography and Regional Development has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Regional Development and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Geography. Courses focus on physical geography, biogeography, climatology, geomorphology, as well as on nature-society and cultural/historical interactions, and the medical and economic expressions of geographical variation. http://geog.arizona.edu/~web/

Hydrology describes water in all its forms and seeks solutions to society’s troublesome problems with water caused by its being “too much, too little, or too dirty.” The U of A’s Department of Hydrology and Water Resources. www.hwr.arizona.edu/
