What is the E-Mentoring Program?
The E-Mentoring Program is an educational program with the goal of providing information that may otherwise be unavailable to Native American high school and middle school students. E-Mentoring employs college students to act as mentors and role models.

The Benefits of Mentoring!
All children have the potential to succeed in life and contribute to society. However, not all children get the support they need to thrive.

Benefits include:

  • Improving self-esteem;
  • Keeping young people in school;
  • Helping improve academic skills;
  • Leading young people to resources they might not find on their own;
  • Providing support for new behaviors, attitudes and ambition

Who participates in E-Mentoring?
E-Mentoring began in January 2002 with eight E-Mentors and students from San Juan School District of San Juan, Utah. The program continued in January 2004 with 11 E-mentors and students from Pinon High School. This year we have over 20 mentors and approximately 60 high school students from Pinon High School and San Juan School District.

All the schools that have participated in the E-Mentoring program so far have been GEAR-UP schools. The GEAR-UP program offers students early college awareness activities, challenging academic curriculum, financial aid information, scholarships, academic advising, career exploration activities, campus visits, mentoring, and tutoring.

The E-Mentoring program is a collaborative effort between EEOP and the participating schools.
