Hello. We have been in the Summer Scholars Program here at NAU for the past week. We learned about haze in the Grand Canyon and what we should do about it. We started by researching and talking about it. On Monday we had a guest speaker named Louie Hena. Louie is an Environmental Scientist. On Tuesday we went to the Cholla Power Plant. We took a tour of the Power Plant and we saw many interesting machines. The one we were mainly focusing on was the scrubbers. The scrubbers clean some of the SO2(sulfur dioxide). On Wednesday we went to the forest. We learned about how they study the trees and how old they are. They also told us stories and how they take out cores out of a tree. On Thursday we went on a field trip to the Grand Canyon. We went to the IMAX Theaters. Then we had another guest speaker named Carl Bowman. Carl Bowman is a person who works at the Grand Canyon. He told us how they monitor the haze. He showed us where they monitor the haze. On Friday we finished our research and here we stand reading our reports. |
