Student Tip Sheet

1. When registering for classes, be sure to register for ALL anticipated hours for that semester-- regardless of the start date.

2. If you plan on attending NAU and another institution concurrently, a Consortium Agreement may be an option for you.

3. Verify with the NAU Office of the Bursar that you are signed up for Direct Deposit. If you do not have Direct Deposit, your extra financial aid money will be mailed in the form of a check to the 'Refund' or 'Mailing' address listed on LOUIE. Checks are not available for in-person pick up.

4. You must complete a Master Promissory Note if you are a first time borrower at NAU.

5. You must complete Entrance Counseling if you are a first time borrower at NAU.

6. You must be enrolled at least half-time as a degree seeking student in order to receive financial aid. Half-time for undergraduates is 6 hours. Half-time for graduates is 5 hours.

7. Pell Grants are only available to first-degree seeking undergraduates who qualify.

8. If your financial aid is not available for disbursement at the time you register for classes, you must submit payment.

9. Be aware, if you drop or withdraw from your class or classes, any financial aid received may have to be paid back to the university.

10. A FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be completed for each academic year. An NAU academic year is Fall, Spring and the following Summer. We recommend that you submit your FAFSA for the upcoming academic year as soon as possible (Usually early February before the start of the new Academic
Year).

11. All admitted students, new and continuing, may fill out the Scholarship Interest Form. This form is not an application form, but allows the NAU Office of Student Financial Aid to search for additional scholarships for you. It is in effect throughout your attendance at NAU, however it can be updated at any time. While there is no deadline, most scholarships are awarded in the Spring for the following year, so we recommend you complete this form by March of each year. As some scholarships are need-based, you should also file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well.
