Federal Pell Grant

Pell Grants are only awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree and who are not enrolled in graduate-level classes. Eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education using a standard formula established by Congress and is based on the information you provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The formula produces an Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The maximum award for the 2007-2008 academic year is $4310. How much you receive depends on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), Cost of Attendance and the number of credit hours for which you are enrolled, and whether you attend school for the full academic year. You may not receive Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time.

If you receive a full-time federal Pell Grant for both fall and spring semesters, there will not be Pell Grant money left for the summer semester. If you are paid for fewer than 12 hours for fall or spring semester, part of your annual award may still be available for the summer term.

Transfer students who have already received the full annual 2007-2008 Pell Grant from another institution, are not eligible for Pell funds at NAU. If a partial payment at another school is received, your Pell amount at NAU will be reduced proportionately.
