Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan
Federal loans that are given on need based and non-need based circumstances.
Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
Federal loan taken out by parents for dependent undergraduate students. Also includes information on the graduate PLUS loan.
Private Alternative Loan
Loans borrowed from other institutions (such as banks.) These are not taken out through Northern Arizona University.
Perkins Loan
Federal loan given on a financial need basis.
Alaska Loan
State loan given to Alaskan Students who attend NAU offered by the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE)
Nursing Loan
A Loan given out to nursing students.

Math, Science, and Special Education Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program
The Arizona Board of Regents announces the Arizona Loan Forgiveness Program for Math, Science and Special Education Teachers, effective January 2008. This program allows selected students to take out loans which will be subsequently “forgiven” for those who meet specific teaching requirements.
