What is the Nursing Loan Program?
The Federal Nursing Loan Program provides full-time nursing degree students that have financial need with 5% (five percent), low-interest loans to supplement additional aid.

Who is eligible to receive Nursing Loans?
  • Nursing students in their last two years may borrow up to $4000
    (generally $1000 per semester in their last two years; others are limited to the annual limit of $2500;

  • Students must be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, as a full-timestudent in the NAU Nursing Program. A list of nursing students is obtained from the Nursing Department prior to the fall semester;

  • Students must be in good standing, as per the Office of Student Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress policy for academics and maximum cumulative credit hours;

  • Preference is given to previous borrowers;

  • Priority consideration is given to students with the highest need, based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

    If I am awarded a Nursing Loan, how do I receive my loans?
    When the Nursing Loan has been awarded, a revised Award Letter will be sent to the student. The NAU Office of the Bursar will send loan documents that the student must complete and return as soon as possible to the Bursar's Office. Once the documents are received by the Bursar's Office, this will activate the loan for scheduled disbursement.
