Scholarship: Charles E. Bull Creative Writing Awards
Source: Charles E. Bull, a 1937 English and Education graduate at NAU.
Eligibility: NAU students. Two awards of equal amounts given one, for the best poem and one for the best short story submitted to the selection committee by a graduate or undergraduate English major.

Scholarship: Patricia Mapes Anderson English Scholarship
Source: Established by Patricia Mapes Anderson, a 1963 graduate of NAU, as a thank-you for the great educational experience she had while attending NAU and a way to help other students achieve an education.

Scholarship: William M. Burke Scholarship
Source: Established by Dr. Jane Armstrong Woodman, winner of the 1997 Annual Fund’s Giving Giveaway, in honor of Dr. William M. Burke, Northern Arizona University Professor Emeritus, longtime instructor of English literature and widely admired colleague.
Eligibility: Undergraduate English majors who have completed or who are taking Fiction Writing courses at the 300 level or above and who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Source: Established in 1988 to provide scholarship support to meritorious students at NAU who have financial need. Contact the History Department.
Eligibility: Full-time or part-time graduate student with a program emphasis in western history and cultures. Majors include history, anthropology, the social sciences, or journalism. Applicants must detail their interests in western studies in their student letters.

Scholarship: George and Elinor Kyte Scholarship
Source: Established in 1987 by Professor George W. Kyte, who taught at NAU from 1966 until his retirement in 1985. Contact the History Department.

Scholarship: William H. Lyon U.S. History Award
Source: Established in 1990 in recognition of professor and History Department chair, William H. Lyon, a longtime professor who served the NAU history department from 1958 until his retirement. Contact the History Department.
Eligibility: Full-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate history major. Preference will be given to applicants who are conducting research focusing on the history of the trans-Mississippi West, Southwest, and the borderlands.

Scholarship: Francis McAllister Endowment/Transition Foundation Fellowship
Source: Established in 1989 to provide financial support to meritorious students in history graduate programs at NAU. Contact the History Department.
Eligibility: Full-time graduate history major who is engaged in original research focusing on the history of the southwestern United States. Preference is given to a student who is at the dissertation stage of research.

Scholarship: Frances McAllister Endowed Fund

Biological Sciences
Scholarship: Eugene and Margery Bayless Scholarship Fund for Biological Sciences
Source: Established in 1985 by Eugene F. And Margery Bayless. Contact the Biology Department.
Eligibility: Senior attending NAU in the fall (90 or more hours or more with > 45 hours from NAU completed); demonstrated excellence in both undergraduate research and academic achievement; minimum GPA greater than 3.5; and completion of a significant research project that is or is near to being published or has been presented at a scientific meeting.

Scholarship: Cowden Microbiology Scholarship
Source: Cowden family endowment for microbiology students.
Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate students doing microbiological related research. Selection is based on SAT/ACT scores, GRE scores, GPA, letters of recommendation, community service, and statement of interest and compatibility with the interests of the Cowden Microbiology Fellowship Program.

Scholarship: Chester F. "Danny" Deaver Scholarship
Source: Established in 1986 by Danny and Gladys Deaver. Danny Deaver was founder of the Deaver Herbarium and a professor of botany for 41 years at NAU.
Eligibility: Major in botany or biology with an applied plant science emphasis; meritorious; permanent Arizona resident; undergraduate or graduate student; and completion of at least 60 hours with > 30 hours at NAU. Must attend NAU in the Fall.

Scholarship: Kenneth E. Derifield Memorial Scholarship
Source: Established by Granice L. Derifield in memory of her husband Kenneth, former NAU Biology faculty member.
Eligibility: Junior biology major (60-89 hours completed) with at least 20 or more hours in biology courses with >30 hours at NAU, a minimum 3.4 GPA; active member of the biology honorary society, Beta Beta Beta; has performed service to the biology department in various roles; and plans to complete the senior year at NAU.

Scholarship: James R. Wick Scholarship
Source: Established in 1992 in honor of Dr. James R. Wick, chair of Biological Sciences from 1959 to 1987. Funds are to be used to help sophomores purchase textbooks. Contact Biological Sciences Department.
Eligibility: Sophomore with 30 - 40 hours applied to a degree in the Department of Biological Sciences with > 15 hours at NAU; a 3.5 minimum GPA; attending NAU full-time for semester of award; demonstrated financial need; and no other scholarship assistance for the purchase of textbooks.

Scholarship: Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (Army ROTC) Nursing Scholarships

Eligibility: Army ROTC Nursing Scholarships: Two and three year Army ROTC Nursing scholarships are available to pre-nursing students and nursing students accepted into the NAU School of Nursing. Application can be made at any time of year. However, it is recommended that application be made in the summer/fall of the academic year.
Value: Full in-state or out-of-state tuition, $650 per year book and fee allowance, and a monthly stipend of between $250-400
Scholarship: Exercise Physiology Scholarship

Source: Sponsored by American Dental Hygienists’ Association. Application materials are available through the ADHA Foundation Scholarship Service, 44 North Michigan, Suite 3400, Chicago, IL 60641. All scholarship applicants must file the Financial Aid Form (FAFSA). The FAFSA form should be filed with the College Scholarship Committee by February 1. The applicant must document a financial need of at least $300.
Eligibility: A certified associate's degree or bachelor's degree in dental hygiene curriculum; graduates of a certified associate degree program are eligible only if they can provide evidence of acceptance as a full-time bachelor's degree candidate. Honors Program
To apply for the following scholarships, submit the Scholarship Interest Form.
Scholarship: Charles and Ellie Meister Scholarship
Source: To honor the founders of Arizona’s oldest Honors Program.
Eligibility: Students actively enrolled in NAU’s Honors Program who have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. Primary consideration will be given to students who have demonstrated scholarship and service to the Honors Program.

Scholarship: Carroll Lane and Mildred Adams-Fenton Scholarship
