Automatic Scholarship Awards based on NAU Admission

Incoming Arizona residents, who will be first-time freshmen, are automatically considered for tuition scholarship awards when admitted to NAU by April 1st for the following Fall semester. Award consideration is based on high school or Core GPA and nationally recognized tests such as SAT or ACT. It is to a student’s advantage to apply for admission and supply transcripts and achievement scores to NAU Undergraduate Admissions as soon as possible after the junior year in high school. Awards are in the form of tuition scholarships, the exact amounts of which are outlined in your award letter.

Other NAU Scholarships for Incoming Arizona Freshmen

Dorrance Family Scholarships
Dorrance Family Scholarships, worth $8,000 per year, are available to incoming Arizona freshmen attending NAU. Application information may be found under the “Private Donor Scholarships” section.

Arizona Academic Decathlon
NAU will offer scholarships to students in all four regions of the Arizona Academic Decathlon who place in the top three positions (not to exceed nine students per region) for Honors, Scholastics and Varsity. The NAU scholarships will provide a partial-tuition scholarship, renewable for
an additional three years (summer sessions excluded) if the student maintains full time status and a 2.5 cumulative NAU GPA.

Should students receive other tuition awards (performing arts, athletics, NAU Merit etc.), the highest-valued scholarship will replace this award.

Students must meet NAU admissions requirements. If a student has placed in the top three categories and is not yet a senior, NAU will reserve the scholarship until the student completes high school. However, NAU requires that decathlon scholarship recipients must be admitted to NAU upon graduation from high school. NAU will not honor scholarships to students who elect to attend another institution upon graduation from high school, prior to attending NAU.

Non-Arizona Resident Merit Based Scholarships

Students will be automatically considered for the Northern Arizona University President's Scholarship for Non-Residents for the following Fall semester. This is a renewable award, valued at $5500 per academic year. If awarded, renewability criteria and other details will follow in your award letter.

Students participating in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition discount program are not eligible to receive the President's Scholarship for Non-Residents.

International Student Tuition Waivers
