Flagstaff

FlagstaffFlagstaff is located in north-central Arizona, approximately 150 mi (240 km) north of Phoenix at 7000 ft (2100 m) elevation. Flagstaff is surrounded by the ponderosa pine forest of northern Arizona, and is centrally located near numerous National Parks and Monuments, including the Grand Canyon, Wupatki, Sunset Crater and Walnut Canyon. Sedona is a 45-minute drive south of town.

Flagstaff is famous for mild year-round weather. Average daily high temperatures in April and May are 57 °F (14 C) and 67 °F (19 C), respectively, with lows of 26 °F (-3 C) and 33 °F(1 C), although cooler or warmer conditions can prevail. Average precipitation is ca. 1.5 in (3.8 cm) in April and 0.7 in (1.7 cm) in May.

Getting There by Plane, Train or Bus

Flagstaff is served by plane, AMTRAK from Los Angeles and Albuquerque, Greyhound Bus and by Open Road Tours Shuttle.

Flagstaff's Pulliam Airport has a number of America West feeder flights to and from Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport. Once at the Flagstaff airport, you can get a cab at the Flagstaff airport to take you to the Embassy Suites Flagstaff.

It is often very expensive to fly from Phoenix to Flagstaff. Many people either rent a car at Sky Harbor Airport and drive, or take the shuttle from the Phoenix airport to Flagstaff. All major car rental firms can be found in Phoenix. The bonus of travel by car or shuttle is that the desert is extremely green and beautiful from all of this year’s moisture, and it promises to be a spectacular wildflower season.

Open Road Tours runs a shuttle bus from Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport to Flagstaff’s AMTRAK Station five times daily. The current schedule for trips from Phoenix to Flagstaff is:
